What do i do after buying an iphone 3gs no contract?

u have to use it with carriers that have sim cards and unlock it,

Go into settings and turn airplane mode on and then turn the wireless back on. Then you can use it as an expensive ipod touch with a camera. (I currently do this with my old 3g).
You can unlock it to use on any carrier that uses a sim card, then you can program that carriers data settings into it. If you want to just use it around the house like I said before, leave airplane mode on and you wont ever have to activate it or anything.
