The trackball is typically the first thing to go wrong on a BlackBerry device. Unfortunately it’s a common issue.

RIM have now started to replace it with a ‘trackpad’ in the new model phones.

If you use GPRS/3G – you’ll need a data tariff. There are a number of ‘pay as you use’ or ‘unlimited’ tariffs which for a monthly fee might include browsing as well.
On the more current models of the Pearl – it provides wifi, so you can use your home or office broadband instead of your wireless carrier.

You’ll need your sim card to be provisioned with the BlackBerry APN to get your emails pushed to the device. This happens when you take a BlackBerry tariff from your operator. Some operators have PAYU BlackBerry tariffs, but you’ll definately need the APN for email’s. It should work as a phone and browser OK without, but not email.
